SUNDAY MORNING CLASSES – BEGIN AT 9 A.M.
Adults
The Teaching of Second Peter – Jim Davis, auditorium
God spoke to us through Peter’s life, his eyewitness testimony to Jesus, and two edifying letters that are full of both warning and hope, instruction and promise. This class will focus on the teaching of Peter’s second letter with the aim that we would “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Pet 3:18).
Christian Counter-Culture: The Sermon on the Mount – Wes Aubrey & Others, fellowship hall
In an increasingly non-Christian culture, our actions and perspectives must be increasingly counter-cultural. In the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord repeatedly stresses the command to “not be like them” (Matt 6:8a), that is, the culture around us. In this Sermon on the Mount anchored study, we will collectively meditate on small sections of Matthew 5-7 each week and discuss the implications of applying these teachings to our lives. This class will be heavily participative and discussion oriented.
Youth Classes
OT1: Where’s Jesus? Joe Pauley/Ben Painter – Youth House
It’s the last class in this series for our middle school kids in grades 6-8. Sometimes is difficult for us to see and understand that the God of the Old Testament and the God of the New Testament is the same. The truth is, not only is He the same God but scripture as a whole is telling the same cohesive story. In this study, we will be looking at part one of our journey of seeing Jesus throughout the Old Testament.
Gods at War: The Battle for Your Heart, Barry Boverie/Frank Overcast – Youth House
Teens in grades 9-12 will learn that there are false gods at war within each of us, and they battle for the place of glory and control in our lives. What keeps us from truly following Jesus Christ is that our hearts are pursuing something or someone else like money or popularity. While these pursuits may not be the “graven images” of old, they are in fact modern-day idols. Behind the sin you’re struggling with, the fear you’re dealing with, and the lack of purpose you’re living with is a false god that is winning the war for your heart.
Children’s Classes – Lower-level classrooms, 4-K in the loft
The lesson this week for our kids through grade 5 comes from Matthew 2:1-23 and Luke 2:21-52 and is titled Jesus is Dedicated.
WEDNESDAY EVENING
Adults –Amos and Micah, Tom Painter and Ben Painter – Fellowship Hall
Although Amos and Micah don’t get a lot of attention in Bible studies, these classes will show how relevant the prophets’ messages are to our society. Tom and Ben will also provide the historic and geographic context to help make sense of these two Old Testament books.
